Qualifying for The Main Tournament begins Thursday, July 6th at 5PM.
Registration is required for all tournament players and early registration is greatly appreciated. Like please do this, it’s paramount. Competitors for Main Open qualifying will be accepted until Saturday at 2PM or until the cap is reached. Those bringing pins are some nice folks no one should argue. Such fine humans will be granted paid entry into the Women’s/Strikeout Bounty and a sick amount of love. Early tournament competitors/exhibitors must receive their credentials prior to the event opening no later than 3pm on Thursday, July 7th. Meaning, give ole' Mike an email and lets see what we can do.
Check out the full breakdown for the tournament below: Main Event: The Main event will consist of an open qualifying period beginning at 5PM to 12AM on Thursday, July 6th running through Friday, 10AM to 2AM, then Saturday from 10AM until 4PM with the finals event beginning promptly at 5PM for the first and second rounds of Group Matchplay. The entry fee for the Main Tournament is $100 with games set to $.50/game. Combatants will receive an event T-Shirt and a goody bag (We like goodie bags). The Main open event is capped at 80 ballers with prize pots generated by tournament fee plus $1,000 added to the pot by location for total prize monies around 9k$. Registration: Registration is required for all tournament players. This will be accomplished in two ways. The first and preferred method is by sending an email to mike@hangarpinball.com with your name, IFPA #, a headshot for the JetStreaM, and a short one-liner about you and pinball. Tournament registration fees will be taken via PayPal (friends and family to avoid extra fees) at the same address, or via cash on delivery. Cash is king still, sorta. Qualifying: The qualifying event will consist of a bank of 16 modern, classic, and EM machines with a murderous rage setup enabled. All games will be set to competition settings in “DEFAULT.” Some pins will have an Easter egg thrown in to keep it interesting. Each competitor may compete up to 20 cards during the qualifying period. Only a player’s single highest score on each machine will be counted with the player’s best scores on 5 different machines counted as a complete entry/card. That player's 5 best games will be compared against all other players' 5 best games and awarded points accordingly. Players will need to play at least 5 of the 16 pinball machines to be awarded a score. The tournament will be using “It Never Drains” Software from IE pinball, a proud streaming community friend for the event which will allow for live queueing of player/games, score tracking individually, and live standings on the overhead displays. The rank of the player’s result on each machine will contribute points to their overall entry as follows: 1st place- 100 points2nd place- 97 points3rd place- 95 points4th place- 94 points5th place- 93 points6th place- 92 pointsAll the way down (Best Possible Score = 500 points, for highest score on 5 different machines) To be clear and simply put, you have 20 tries to string together 5 better games than the next guy (and/or gal). Finals: Determining Number of Finalists: • Div A: Top 24 qualified players who kicked pinball tail will be placed in Division A. • Div B: Next Top 24 qualified players who gave it heck will be placed in Division B. 48 total players advance to finals. Tie breakers will be played as required. *In the event the top seed/previous match-winner declines game choice, 2nd seed/place will assume that role. high-stakes
High-Stakes Hunter:
The high-stakes event this year will consist of a hardcore, bad to the bone Progressive-card unlimited qualifying period followed by an equally demanding finals component.
Beginning promptly at 5PM to around 12AM Bar Time on Thursday, July 6th running through Friday July 7th, 11AM to 2AM, then Saturday July 8th from 11AM until 2AM; there will be plenty of time to watch the pot grow. The High-Stakes finals event will begin promptly at 3-4PM Sunday afternoon and run until a wad of cash gets awarded to the best there is. We are attempting to begin the finals after or as soon as possible after the Main Open finals.
Cards for the High-Stakes Tournament cost 5$ for the first card, 10$ for the 2nd, 20$ for 3rd and so on increasing by 10$ per card without cap.
Games are set to $.50. Combatants may purchase as many cards as pesos they wish to risk.
Registration:
The registration process is both complicated and simple. Mostly simple. Each contestant must register with Hangar Pinball officials to receive their card and cough up cash. Each player will be spreadsheeted like a mad man for tracking progress on card purchases with the actual card being virtual using “It Never Drains” software.
Standings/Queuing will be displayed in real-time on the overhead scoreboard and on your personal device.
Qualifying:
Qualifying the quest to become a bad-ass yet richer person will put the player face to face, Mano-a-machine, in a bank of 6 randomly chosen games without concern for your happiness. Mostly modern, with perhaps a classic or EM sprinkled in; expect an even more murderous rage setup enabled than all other banks. We’re playing for keeps aren’t we? You may look as mean as you want, but be aware they probably will not back down from your menacing glazed-over eyes.
All games will be set to competition settings in “DEFAULT.”
What’s a card? Glad you asked. A card is comprised of 5 games. A player must play at least 5 of the 6 pins to be awarded a score. Scoring will be awarded linearly with the top player earning 100pts, 2nd 99, 3rd 98, and so on. The idea is to keep it extremely tight leaving zero doubt the top 8 qualifiers earned it.
Finals:
Determining Number of Finalists:
This is the simple part. The top 8 cards will be honored with an invitation to throw the heck down Sunday morning promptly at 3-4PM, July 9th 2023, against 7 other hard-core pin-gangstas.
High-Stakes means more than just money, it means little room for error during play as well. You got what it takes? Yeah, we think so too, but let’s find out on the battle field. #PlayBetter…
Finals Format:
The final will be played as a group Matchplay event. 2 groups of four players will battle it out across 5, TWO game rounds with 7-5-3-1 scoring. There will be no byes, no divisions and certainly no pats on the back until it’s over. At the conclusion of 5 rounds, the 2 players from each group with the most pathetic scores will each receive a karate chop to the collar bone and be eliminated from further competition. So don’t suck.
The highest seed from qualifying in each group has a choice of game OR game position to start round 1. For all subsequent matches, the choice of game OR position will belong to the winner of the previous match, then in reverse finishing order. (i.e., last place chooses next).
Players will be placed in groups in the most equitable way possible. 1-4-5-8 and 2-3-6-7 seem about right.
Tie breakers will be played as required.
Round 2 is going to be a booger with no lonesome soul walking empty-handed amongst a cohort of happily paid players. Don’t be the guy or gal who didn't kill it, please.
Round 2 will be played as 5, SINGLE game rounds with 7-5-3-1 IFPA scoring. Brutal huh! Yes. It is.
May the pin-gods look down kindly upon your soul and may the fastest, most knowledgeable reflexes win.
*In the event top seed/previous match-winner declines game choice, 2nd seed/place will assume that role.
Prize Pool:
Like money? Thought so. Here’s how to get some…
1st 50% of pot. Take home the cake with a plaque commemorating your exquisitely honed skills silhouetted against the setting western sun as a top-dog of pinball prowess rife with wads of cash in hand.
2nd 22% of pot. Still kinda cool. We guess.
3rd 14% of pot. Not bad. Not bad. Not great. But not bad.
4th 6% of pot. Pats head gently*
5th-8th 2% of pot. Hey, it’s something. At least you’re not one of those unqualified players with pockets hanging out releasing nothing but flies.
The JetStreaM: We will be competing on the national stage live and forever over the interwebz. Please be advised you could appear on the internet by attending. While no one is telling anyone how to dress around here, please do just be aware.

Progressive Strikeout Bounty
Bounty Strike-Out Social:
Batter Up! for this year’s social strike-out to wrap up the event with a twist! We will be playing a progressive 7-strike Knockout as a Bounty to spread around the wealth a bit. What the heck is a bounty!? you may well be asking… Good question. Let’s break it down below. The purpose of this paragraph however is to simply say welcome!, thanks for liking pinball! Perhaps you got eliminated early in the finals, or perhaps didn’t get in at all and are stuck waiting on someone who did, or maybe high-stakes isn't enough to keep you focused, who knows!, this is the tournament for you!
Registration:
This event will be open to the first 48 players to de-holster those flippin’ phalanges with 5 Bucks in ‘em on a first come, first served basis starting at high-noon Sunday, July 9th, 2023. That hard-earned 5-spot will net the user exactly one official Hangar Pinball Poker Chip with which to cause utter mayhem. The one and only catch? If actively playing in the main open, you just git’. You’re not welcome to come spank us here too!!!
Showdown at the Route 66 Corral:
Players will be squared off by the robot overlords in preferably 4 but sometimes 3-player groups as required, with one objective clearly in mind. Don’t lose; Play Better… The winning part is pretty important to some sports as we wouldn’t know who to praise and scorn otherwise. To win some praise here, be first or second in your group. It really is that simple. Because if you fail this minor charge, dangit, you’ll get a strike and nobody we know cares for 'em. Collect 7 of those bad boys in fact and your pinball day is doneski. .. Toast… But wait!, there’s more. That fancy Hangar Pinball poker chip you’ve been sitting atop like a mean-spirited dragon? You now gotta give it up to the winner of that round. Sorry.
So to speak clearly for once, be 1st or 2nd in your group = no strike. Come in 3rd or 4th? Guess what… Strike. Hit 7 and your wallet grows no larger.
As play progresses it can become quite thrilling as chips begin exchanging hands and throats are threatened cut etc., but don’t stop after just your first few kills as there are potentially 48, 5-dollar-foot-longs up for grabs!
If in the event two players are eliminated in any given round, one chip goes to the winner and the second chip goes to the other winner who was smart not to get another strike.
Finals:
It is highly unlikely folks will still be chomping at the bit for more pinball at the conclusion of this thing, but if time permits, the Tournament Director reserves the right to propose a finals component. This needs more discussion and likely wont be an issue, but if reading these words, it still is.
